BUILD YOUR PARTNER AWARENESS
Mirror and call.
Communication gets easier when you practice it before the point feels urgent.

What this drill builds
Move with your partner and make simple, early calls for middle balls and switches.
Set up
Two pairs start at the kitchen line. One pair focuses on mirroring and calling while the other feeds neutral balls.
Make the rep useful
Common miss: Calling the ball after both players have already committed.
A good rep: Your calls feel quiet, early, and helpful rather than loud and late.
The takeaway
Early calls and synchronized movement stop collisions, protect shared space, and make both partners easier to trust under pressure.
Progress the drill
Start with obvious feeds to the middle and sideline. As the pair gets comfortable, reduce the time between feed and response so the call must become earlier rather than louder.
Carry it into a game
Use one simple shared word for middle balls. A short early call gives both players time; a late explanation does not.
